TECHNIQUE: Watercolor and gouache on ivory, protected under a convex glass

ARSTIST: CIOR Charles Pierre (1769-1840)

SIGNED: Cior

FRAME : Gilded metal frame

PORTRAIT SIZE: 7,8cm

FRAME SIZE: 9cm

DESCRIPTION :

Rare miniature painted at the very end of the eighteenth century, during the short period of "Incredible" and "Marvellous". Famous for the freedom of morals and the provocative outfits that characterize it, this small period of post-revolutionary emotional release amazes and shocks all  Europe (see the last picture : caricature of the Englishman Cruikshank in 1800).

Here the young woman wears a black gauze dress totally transparent, and lifts with a seductive gesture, a white lace mantilla, to show even better what nothing hides.

The work, by Charles Pierre Cior (1769-1840), is signed lower right
