HEINSIUS Johann-Julius (1740-1812), PORTRAIT OF A LADY, MINIATURE DATED 1790
Miniature signed on the left : Heinsius pinxit 1790 HEINSIUS Johann-Julius (1740-1812) was the painter and miniaturist of Mesdames de France, daughters of Louis XV. In 1790, he had fled the Revolution and settled in Orléans, going to Paris regularly. This beautiful portrait, dating from 1790, bears in itself all the carelessness and elegance of the last years of the Ancien Regime : the sitter is still painted smiling and adorned. The 18th century gilded bronze frame is decorated with a snake : a symbol of seduction, fertility and immortality.TECHNIQUE:
