DESCRIPTION :

Johan Eusebius ALPHEN was a genius artist with a unfortunately extremely short career. Born and died in Vienna (1741-1772), most of his short career was almost entirely devoted to the Habsburg court, where most of his works are still to be found.

The set of large rectangular miniatures that he undertook in 1768/1770, to portray the Archduchesses Marie-Antoinette and her sisters are is an ensemble of exeptional quality.

We thank Bernd Pappe for this identification of a rare artist.
