BILFELDT Jean-Joseph-Houille (1793-1869), IMPORTANTE MINIATURE, MAY BE A SELF-PORTRAIT, CIRCA 1820
Of an exceptional size, this very large miniature on ivory was undoubtedly intended to be exibited for a Salon in which participated the artist between 1822 to1844. It shows a young man of three-quarters, a fur coat opened around him. He wears long hair and the high hat, conferring him a very "artist" look. These large-sized miniatures, were intended to mark the public. They often showed self-portraits of the artists, allowing to judge the resemblance with the author. This work, signed to the right, shows moreover a quality of composition and excussion much highter than what we usually know by Bilfeldt. Maybe this miniature is a self-portrait of the artist .TECHNIQUE:
