Exceptional miniature signed by Amand Vincent de Montpetit, giving us an unpublished portrait of the famous actor Henry-Louis Caïn, said Lekain, in 1767.

The miniature is painted in "éludorique" maner, or still, in oil fixed under glass.

Vinvent de Montpetit was the inventor of this method. The work, rare thing, is signed and dated in the lapel : De montpetit 1767.

After Simon - Bernard Lenoir's pastel of the same year of 1767 (Musée du Louvre), and a painting attributed to Van Loo (see our last two photos), Vincent de Montpetit gives here his portrait of the famous actor. Represented in costume in the role of Orosmane, character of the tragedy of Voltaire : Zaire, in which Lekain triumphed in Versailles. It is this role which allowed him to be received by Louis XV among his comedians.
