GUERIN Jean-Urbain (1761-1836), PORTRAIT MINIATURE , YOUGN GIRL WITH CROWN OF ROSES, VERS 1790

TECHNIQUE: Watercolor and gouache, protected under a flat glass

ARSTIST: GUERIN Jean-Urbain (1761-1836)

SIGNED: Guerin F(ecit)

FRAME : Gilded circle metal mount

PORTRAIT SIZE: 7,5x6cm

FRAME SIZE: 9x7,5cm

DESCRIPTION :

Large miniature from the 1790s, signed on the right by Jean-Urbain Guerin : Guerin F.

The portrait shows a smiling young girl, wearing long curly red hair, crowned with roses.

The work is characteristic of the artist's portraits at this time. The young women wear thin gauze dresses and long, natural hair. Represented in profile like the Duchess of Devonshire and Elisabeth Foster (Wallace Collection), or from the front but still keeping the influence of Pompeian frescoes, like the portrait of the Louvre (inv. RF 30715) or that of Pauline d'Arenberg (Tansey Foundation ref 10269). Then Guérin gradually slipped towards bust portraits, less ethereal and more realistic, like this one, part of his production from 1790 to 1795.
