Rare testimony of the Revolutionary jails, this moving miniature by Louis Sené offers us the portrait of a man carving on the walls of his dungeon: "Prisonier pour la Patrie"

The Pohl-Ströher collection contained a miniature of the same composition (sale Sothebys December 6, 2018, lot 120), signed Marianna Waldstein but no doubt copied after an original by Louis Séné, thesis confirmed by the discovery of this portrait of a prisoner
