Magnificent miniature by Nicolas Lavreince (1737-1807) also known as Lafrensen.

Miniaturist of the court of Sweden in 1770, he came to settle in Paris where his works were very popular, friend of Pierre Adolphe Hall, he remained in France until the French Revolution.

This miniature, richly detailed, shows a young woman dressed as a Diana, wearing a gold crescent, accompanied by her dog, resting at the edge of a river.

This miniature was chosen by Henry Bouchot and reproduced in his 1907 book, which was then given wrongly at Welper.  We certainly return this work to Lafrensen, whose touch is so characteristic.
