DESCRIPTION :

Portrait of a little boy in a green suit, his hand  on the head of a small artificial sabre for children.

The miniature is signed and dated to the right : Borel 1818

Antoine Borel (1777-1838), is from a family comprising many artists. He himself was a pupil for a time of Jean-Baptiste Jacques Augustin, and became director of the school of drawing in Besancon in 1815.

The massive rosewood frame, decorated with rich gilded ormolu bronzes and a comtal crown, is of exceptional quality.
