FRAME : Gold mounted Snuffbox (illegible punches). Inside with speckled tortoiseshell , the outside covered with a leather painted in green with sequences of white nets and golden bands decorated with glitter.

DESCRIPTION :

Miniature portrait of Catherine II of Russia (1729-1796).

The miniature is inspired by the portrait of the tsarin by Fedor Stepanovitch ROKOTOV, the only difference : Catherine II is represented here with in a background of a wide folds of a heavy curtain (symbol of power).

The miniature is preserved on its round tabatière of the time, circled and richly decorated with gold (illegible punches). The portrait is surrounded by foliated gold friezes, surmounted by two doves and a mascaron. Inside : speckled scale box, the exterior covered with a leather painted in green with white thread sequences and gold stripes decorated with sequins.

CONDITION: Very good condition. A crack restaured on right part. Tiny wear on box.
